LOUMED: The Heart of Healthcare, Education and Progress

Powering Louisville’s Health and Future

LOUMED Today

Few cities have such a concentrated mix of assets as Louisville does in LOUMED: two Level I trauma centers, world-class hospitals, research institutions, colleges, nonprofit organizations, and 30,000 daily users, including students, employees, patients, and visitors.

Today, LOUMED is a vibrant hub of continuous activity where lifesaving care is delivered, medical discovery advances, and future healthcare leaders are trained. Investments in public spaces, streetscapes, safety, and accessibility are creating a more welcoming, active gateway to downtown Louisville.

Our vision is to position Louisville as a global leader in healthcare innovation and education by creating a world class, walkable medical and educational District that supports research, clinical care, workforce development and innovation.

We are laying the foundation with infrastructure projects, safety programs, and master planning. Working with some of the same talent that helped develop world-class innovation hubs like Boston’s Longwood Medical and Academic Area and Cleveland’s Health Education Campus, LOUMED is ready to bring our region’s health and economic growth to the next level.

By uniting hospitals, universities, and research centers, LOUMED creates a dynamic environment where patient care is enhanced through cutting-edge discoveries and future healthcare leaders are trained.

Institutions & Partners

By uniting a concentrated mix of world-class hospitals, research institutions, and colleges, LOUMED transforms Louisville’s medical district into a cohesive and inspiring destination.

Home to two Level I trauma centers and 30,000 daily users, our partners work collaboratively to advance patient care and medical research while implementing a coordinated placemaking and infrastructure strategy.

Together, we are reimagining the district with intentionality, prioritizing safety and connectivity to create a welcoming environment for every student, employee, and patient.
